There is a 40 km bicycle path along the Canal du Midi from Toulouse to the "Seuil de Naurouze".
In fact, this path extends after down the Mediterranean Sea but not with tar.
An interesting site (in French) describes the travel on this historic path.
(For your information, Baziège is not on the map because it is not directly on the canal. But it is just in front Ayguesvives on the other side of the canal).
