Why "Place de la Volaille" ? Simply because a famous poultry market was taken place in the late 19th and early 20th century.

The future city hall ?

The commune of Baziège has bought this estate just in the center of the village.
The large house will be easily converted in a brand new City Hall and the large lot will be transformed in a pleasant green way open to all in Baziège.

DP Theme : What your city is known for : LOTO

Perhaps you have checked out my previous post, it was more conventional : streets, buildings, ...
But Baziège is so small and known only in our area. Nothing is renowned, except the Chapel of Sainte Colombe. But I prefer something more funny, so I chose a typical activity of Baziège people : LOTO (or BINGO). Every week or more all year long (but more in the beginning) a LOTO is organized by a local association (soccer, public school, fishing club, ...) to get some money for their activities. They take place in the Village Hall.

Hiking in Baziège Cycle #5 : zoo

Do you imagine zebras and kangaroos in Baziège in this small village of France far from everything ? Yes it's true as on the picture. It's very difficult to take picture because for zebras they were far from me grouped in a specific place and for kangaroos the they are shy and run away at the first noise. In the title, I say zoo but in fact it is not open to public but schools are welcomed. It's well protected as shown it last picture. Big brother is watching you. Is it bizarre, no ?

Hiking in Baziège Cycle #4 : signs

Our community the Sicoval has decided to mark with these signs 240 km of track roads mainly off- road. Each tracks have been described in very useful flyers.

Around Baziège, these tracks are named "Les chemins du Pastel" (the tracks of the Pastel). The Pastel (woad)was a plant used to produce a blue tincture. It has been very cultivated in the area until the end of the 16th century before to be replaced by indigo.

I stopped in the middle of this descent to take the above picture and I heard a weird buzzing sound. In fact it was the oak below. It didn't lose its leaves in autumn and with the wind they make this buzzing sound.

Bell Tower of Baziège - Night View

A night view of the same post.
This kind of Bell Tower is typical our area "Le Lauragais".
It's called "clocher-mur" (bell tower wall) because the bell-tower is in the continuation of the main facade.

Old windmill and grindstones

On top of the hill, ideally located for a max of wind, a former windmill is in bad condition contrary to others in the area.

This is the 1st time I see grinstones like this.
