What a beautiful public fountain. Nice photo.
About your photo of the fountain at Naurouze: It's really an old well with a spin-type pump that doesn't function anymore (there are apparently wells at every ecluse on the canal.)
The eclusier put the padlock on to prevent passers-by (mostly children) from spinning the wheel which could damage the near-antique equipment.
By the way, the white picket fence behind is an entrance to our property. Cheers, Sally
